Johnny Cash
The Man in Black

Anyone else like him?

One Piece at a Time is fucking hilarious also his back catalog of more serious stuff, can't sing like Pavarotti but more than makes up for it by pure emotion

Thoughts?

Re: Johnny Cash
Never really been overly mad on him, but he does have a couple of classics.

Took my mum to see the Million Dollar Quarter recently which was good.

True life impromptu jamming session that Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Johnny Cash done back in the 50's.

I never knew that Lewis was such a weirdo nonce!

Re: Johnny Cash
Legend IMO, love his stuff and even some of the later covers he did are great, "Hurt" not long before he died is by far the best version of that particular song, you almost get the feeling he knew the end was close.

The great balls of fire chap who married his cousin and rocked up into Britain with a 12 year old (or close to) on his arm.

Am guessing he taught Saville and co a thing or two while over here.......

Re: Johnny Cash
I absolutely love Johnny Cash.

When I was a kid my paddy Pal's parents (who were pikey cunts) loved him so naturally I hated everything they liked. So I chucked him in the mental bin with Elvis Presley (who I still don't like).

Live at Folsom Prison is one of the greatest live albums of all time and right through his career he came up with fantastic songs. Great lyrics too. Stuff like fighting his dad in 'A Boy Named Sue' with 'well I've fought bigger, harder men, I just can't quite remember when. He kicked like a mule and bit like a crocodile '.

The real genius of the man was the stuff he recorded in the ten months after his wife, June Carter Cash, died. Every word he sang is full of pain and longing which is why 'Hurt' works so well. You can hear how much he wants to die and be in heaven with June. Songs like 'When the man comes around' almost dare you NOT to believe in God- even a cynical Godless bastard like me.

I like most of what I've heard, especially the last few albums where he covered some then comtemporary artists, but I'm more a Woody Guthrie man.
